Building stone for building walls with a backing block
Our natural building stone, produced from Stalbridge Quarries on the Dorset, Somerset border, has been used primarily for building houses, walls, barns, churches, and cottages in the towns, countryside, and villages throughout the West Country for centuries. These stone buildings, and structures are some of the prettiest buildings in the country, adding value, and beauty for the owners.
In houses today, with cavity wall insulation the building stone acts as a facing stone for the new build, however reflecting the traditional building stone style. The Forest Marble stone at the quarry is very hard, and durable, making it impermeable to frost and water resistant, and so ideal for exposed locations, or where there is water.
Today, the stone masons in the Quarry, crop, and hand dress the building stone, so that it is easy to lay, and build with the cavity wall and backing block. It is cropped to 6 inches on bed (15 cms width), with random heights creating a traditional facing stone for the wall or house that will protect and insulate the house or wall.
This natural building stone, used as a traditional facing stone is full of interest, having a rich grey/buff colour with fossilised shells that can be seen in every piece of stone. It will add beauty, protection (impervious to frost and water) and natural style to any new build house or wall.
Supplied in a Bulk Bag containing approx. 3.5 sqm of stone cut on a 4-6 inch bed with random heights and hand dressed finish ready to lay.
